Shou Sugi Ban
In ancient times the Japanese charred cedar siding to improve its resistance to rot and insects.
Today, StudioRossi employs this technique known as Shou Sugi Ban to reveal stunning wood grain patterns.
Once charred, the wood is heavily scrubbed and burnished to produce a silky smooth surface ready for a simple water wash. A semi-gloss lacquer makes the three dimensional grain patterns sparkle with reflective light. StudioRossi creates exceptional pieces by combining the gem-like charred wood with figured veneers
